I am not in support of this proposal. Removing provincial species protections will undoubtedly result in long-term negative impacts to all Ontarians. The loss native Ontario species and increasing biodiversity loss is a sign of greater issues related to destruction of the natural world that all humans rely on. Relying on corporations to "do the right thing" will almost never work as intended when these corporations sole goal is to make a profit.
This proposal to remove species protections is short-sighted and will only make the rich richer and the poor poorer. There will be no benefit to the average Ontarian.
Maintaining protections for species at risk will provide umbrella protections for a wide array of other native species, unique habitats and natural spaces that would provide a multitude of benefits to Ontarians, including clean air and water, increased recreational opportunities and increase ecotourism potential.
