I am opposed to bill 5. I oppose Bill 5 because the bill was introduced and passed without proper consultation with the people it affects most—Toronto residents. Major decisions about governance should involve public input.
My opposition to Bill 5 also stems from how it fits into a broader pattern of the provincial government weakening environmental safeguards. Around the same time, the government made changes to the Endangered Species Act and land use planning policies that threaten habitats. By centralizing power and bypassing local councils, it becomes easier to approve developments that harm vulnerable ecosystems.
