I am not in support of this proposed new legislation.
Providing preferential treatment for hand-picked businesses is not democratic, not sustainable, not beneficial to the average Ontarian, not fair and I see no provisions for it to be transparent.
Providing legal loopholes for select companies will not result in sustainable, safe or ethical development in this province. Legal requirements are in place for a reason - to protect our water, air, communities, residents, visitors, habitat and other species that call Ontario home.
There must be a transparent, democratic and fair process to select businesses that will be given these special powers.
Allowing a blanket approach to remove approval requirements is short-sighted and ultimately the tax payer will end up paying the price for dangerous, unregulated development. I am not in favour of paying more taxes while businesses continue to profit.
The long-term consequences of this legislation must be considered. I see no benefit to the average Ontarian - the rich will continue to get richer while the poor will suffer the consequences.
