I am concerned about the proposed proximity of the Dresden landfill to the town. Online I found the following:
In Ontario, landfill sites must follow strict regulations regarding their distance from towns. According to Ontario Regulation 232/98, new or expanding landfills must be located at least 500 metres from residential areas. However, this distance can vary depending on site-specific factors, such as topography, groundwater flow, and environmental impact assessments.
Additionally, municipalities within 3.5 km of a proposed landfill site have the right to approve or reject the project. This ensures that local communities have a say in landfill developments that could affect their environment and public health.
Houses are present near the existing non operational dump and it is less than 1 km from a town that is rejecting the project. This seems to contradict the existing regulations. How can the current provincial government totally disregard these policies on in the event that Trump puts tariffs on our waste going to the States?
