I oppose Bill 5. I want strong environmental protections. I oppose short cuts made for industry and development. I oppose any law that diminishes Indigenous Rights.
Proposed Bill 5 is an atrocity. To think the government can prioritize dollars and expansion over the Earth that supports us is an absurd and unfortunate reality the people of Ontario find themselves in.
Bill 5 uses the threat of American tariffs and the promise of economic security to disguise the attack it is on endangered species, Nature in general, and Indigenous rights — and Ontarians are not falling for it.
The Conservative government is making a huge mistake by not prioritizing the health of our environment - we will collapse without a healthy environment and that would make all the so called economic gains pointless.
There are ways to achieve economic strength and stand strong against America without sacrificing the environment.
If passed this Bill will strip habitat protections, eliminate recovery strategies, allow developers to destroy habitat with zero oversight, and allow discretion about what species deserve protection— we will NOT let this happen. No highway, no bridge, no tunnel, warehouse, neighbourhood or condo is worth the damaging repercussions of what this Bill will do.
It is a strange and unfair world where citizens have to protect Ontario from its own government who is supposed to act as a steward.
Bill 5 will be the beginning of the end for Ontario. We need a government that protects the water, the land and all plants and animals.
