I strongly object to the proposal to amend Ontario's Endangered Species Act, Bill 5:
The amended purpose states, "to provide for the protection and conservation of species while taking into account social and economic considerations including the need for sustainable economic growth".
This would allow sustainable economic growth to override the protection and conservation of [endangered] species where there is conflict between the two.
Changing permits to "rules-in-regulation" undermines any real enforcement.
And, adding ‘Discretion in the listing process’
again undermines regulation enforcement.
Seriously, why can’t we trust our elected officials to do what is best for all of the people and the environment we ALL live in. It is so disappointing to see such irresponsibility.
