Highways and mines are not important than the environment in which we all live and breathe. Giving "trusted proponents" the ability to ignore provincial and municipal laws is irresponsible. Trusting private entities to value anything other than their own economic interest is foolish at best and ghoulish at worst.
Short-cutting the important due diligence in regards to environmental impact would be a mistake. It is our obligation to respect the rights of indigenous people; their input, concerns, and objections cannot be ignored.
These guidelines and review processes are not wasteful or unnecessary, they are crucial to protecting farms, forests, wetlands and endangered wildlife. Not to mention the air we breath, the water we drink, or the massive issue of respecting indigenous rights.
