I'm writing to strongly oppose the proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and the introduction of the Species Conservation Act, 2025. These changes would seriously weaken protections for Ontario’s most at-risk species and their habitats. They prioritize development over science, conservation, and long-term environmental responsibility.
This is not what people voted this government to do. These changes were not part of the government’s mandate or public commitments — they feel sneaky and undemocratic. Major environmental rollbacks like this should not be pushed through quietly without broad public support or meaningful consultation.
I urge you to stop these changes and instead uphold the original intent of the Endangered Species Act: to protect species at risk and the ecosystems they depend on, guided by independent science and public accountability.
