Hello,
I am very concerned that Bill 5 will gut the Ontario Endangered Species Act which lead to rapid habitat loss of species that are integral to the biodiversity of our lands and waters. It will result in poorly or unregulated mining and other earth and water damaging practices. Irreparable damage will be caused and by the time the impact is felt it will be too late.
Please keep this Act in place and work with Indigenous people with knowledge and experience, and with Western trained scientists of all kinds to ensure that there is balance and consideration as we go forward with some degree of mining that is not going to create irreversible havoc.
We cannot just plough through complex problems but we must carefully sort them out. Municipalities in general say that they have enough land right now for great density - let's start there. Let's learn about better mining practices and limit our footprint in its wake.
for the sake of our children and our future, do not take this action.
