I find this bill utterly shameful. It could not be more apparent that the companies who sponsored or proposed it have no care for wildlife and nature, and care only for making money. Ontario cities already have issues with urban sprawl and diminishing greenspace, and this bill will give the white card to industry to raze over whatever they want. I do not trust that developers will do their due diligence and survey or follow up with the habitats they want to develop on. There is no clear way to ensure compliance or to punish non-compliance. So what incentive do they have to do it? I really dislike the way that this government continuously puts profit over disadvantaged populations -- which in this case includes endangered flora and fauna. The decisions to use protected habitats should be left to groups that do not stand to run a profit on further building. For example, the new definition of habitat are laughingly limited and give too much leeway to developers to work around -- by design I'm sure. Please leave the consultation of nature spaces to wildlife and environmental experts! I think developers should focus their resources on optimizing areas that already greenlit or developed, as there are plenty of existing buildings or complexes that need revitalization and care.
