I fear that Bill 5 and changes to the Endangered Species Act would allow the government to sidestep essential environmental protections, workers’ rights, and meaningful consultation with local communities and Indigenous nations.
Under Bill 5, the “special economic zones” would let “trusted” insiders bypass provincial and municipal laws—laws designed to protect the environment, uphold local democracy, and ensure public accountability.
Without a healthy environment providing habitats for our wildlife, many species may become extinct and disrupt the food chain with negative consequences for everyone.
The economic and social impact of global warming is leading to catastrophic weather events which cause billions of dollars of destruction. Taking care of our environment and our wildlife is of utmost importance! I am definitely not in favour of Bill 5. It has the potential to lead to environmental destruction and devastation, not financial prosperity.
