I am writing to express my strong opposition to any proposals that weaken the Environmental Bill of Rights or remove the public's ability to be informed about, or comment on, environmentally significant decisions. The Environmental Bill of Rights exists to ensure transparency, accountability, and protection of Ontario's natural environment. Removing these safeguards not only strips Ontarians of their democratic rights, but also deprives decision-makers of valuable public input and expertise.
urge your government to:
- Cancel Bill 5 and abandon plans to weaken or dismantle the Endangered Species Act, including any efforts to introduce "regulation-free zones" for development or resource extraction.
- Commit to strengthening - not weakening-environmental protections and ensuring the Endangered Species Act fulfills its intended purpose.
Rather than compromising biodiversity in favour of private interests, your government should be prioritizing the protection of Ontario's natural heritage, upholding Indigenous rights, and ensuring that all communities benefit from the ecosystem services that nature freely provides.
