This concerns buses travelling through road corridors with traffic lights.
Traffic signal pre-emption / prioritization technology should be considered seriously if Ontario wants to promote public transit as a viable form of commuting. In cities with congested rush hour traffic flows, using such technology could significantly reduce travel times for buses .
Here is a link with some interesting info on technology being used on bus rapid transit systems in California: http://www.gtt.com/traffic-signal-priority-initiatives-aid-better-bus-travel/
And here is a report on Calgary Transit's experience: https://www.calgarytransit.com/sites/default/files/reports/tsp_avts_summary_report.pdf
Traffic signals are a municipal jurisdiction, but the province needs to provide guidance as this concerns improving the bus travel experience between cities.
