The name of this bill should be changed to "Bill 5, Protect Business Friends by Unleashing our Environment, Act 2025".
I understand the need to encourage more infrastructure projects, and the benefit that will have to our economy in these uncertain times. However, it is misleading to Ontarians to say that this bill is protecting Ontario while it's letting infrastructure projects run wild and free over our natural lands. Ontario will be protected against climate change, food insecurity, and extreme weather events if we protect our natural environment. Ontario cannot put our environment in harms way to stand up to the bully down south. He is not our province's only crisis.
To protect Ontario, clean air, water, and a thriving agriculture sector are required. A healthy environment brings down costs for families, but also draws less on our health care system, and keeps Ontarians at home happy. If the nationwide message is for Canadians to travel within Canada instead of the United States, how will harming our natural species and lands encourage that? Which are you choosing, Ontarians enjoying Ontario, or big business taking over Ontario?
