Eliminating urban design and shadow studies doesn’t speed up the process—in fact, it often makes it longer. How can the city properly assess a development without understanding its impact, its suitability for the surrounding context, or how it aligns with broader planning goals?
Ignoring these critical studies means turning a blind eye to whether a proposal follows established urban design guidelines. And if those guidelines aren’t being used to evaluate new projects, then what’s the point of having them at all?
Without proper urban design oversight, we risk ending up with poorly thought-out developments that harm the character and livability of our neighborhoods. The focus should be on creating a city that is not only more affordable but also more livable—a place people actually want to call home.
