I strongly oppose Bill 5 and its proposed repeal of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), which will gut environmental protections in Ontario and undermine public consultation. This Bill enables unchecked development by private corporations at the expense of biodiversity, Indigenous rights, and democratic processes.

Ontario's environmental laws must be rooted in evidence, Indigenous knowledge, and long-term planning. Bill 5 removes the requirement for public input and creates pathways for exemptions, allowing major projects to bypass environmental oversight entirely. That is unacceptable in a democratic society.

We are already facing rapid biodiversity loss and climate instability. Weakening species protections to enable short-term economic gain is reckless and shortsighted. This Bill puts over 200 at-risk species in greater danger and silences the voices of Ontarians who care about responsible, sustainable development.

We deserve a future where environmental protections are strengthened - not dismantled - and where our natural heritage is safeguarded for generations to come.
