Ontario faces a housing affordability crisis, but Bill 5 is not the answer. Gutting environmental protections and repealing the Endangered Species Act will not make homes more affordable or communities more livable. It will only deepen inequality, environmental degradation, and public distrust.
Evidence-based solutions already exist: infill housing, mixed-use developments, transit-oriented planning, and better policies to curb speculation. These approaches create resilient communities without paving over our green spaces or sacrificing biodiversity.
Bill 5 is an outdated approach that ignores both climate science and urban planning best practices. It rewards developers, not people. Withdraw this Bill and invest in sustainable, inclusive housing solutions that protect our shared natural heritage.
