The Ontario Heritage Act has been a favourite target of the Government. In this round of amendments, the Government is proposing exempting properties from requirements in Part VI of the Act. The proposed change would obviate the need to undertake archaeological assessment. Following the precautionary principle, it is always better to understand a site before a proponent intervenes in it. The proposed change does not represent good planning.
