This bill should not be passed. The government should not have the ability to bypass existing laws and environmental protections, simply because they declare that a region is of particular economic interest. Economic development must be balanced with environmental protections, and so we must ensure that environmental impact is considered when making any plans for development. Protecting Ontario should include ensuring that future generations of Ontarians have a province that they can be proud of, and not just extracting wealth for the present.
