As the habitat for wild species decreases and the climate of that natural habitat also changes, now is not the time to lessen restrictions that protect already endangered wildlife. There are many options to address the housing crisis that this government has not explored. Increasing the risk to already at-risk species does not improve the society we will leave to our children and will—in fact—impoverish it.
This is bad legislation. The role of a government—especially one that styles itself conservative—is to protect the land and people of this nation. This seems too much like an attempt to allow commercial interests to profit by exploiting a public good. That is poor stewardship.
