I strongly oppose the removal of the Environmental Assessment (EA) requirement for the proposed landfill in Dresden, Ontario.
This site is 500 metres from homes, 800 metres from a school, and located next to wetlands, floodplain, and farmland.
There is no justifiable reason to exempt this site from a full Environmental Assessment (EA) — and every reason to uphold public safety, environmental science, and transparency.
Using Trump as a ploy to push this forward is reckless and honestly a very poor excuse. This short term fear mongering has long term impact for Dresden and surrounding areas. The health of our environment and population is at the upmost risk if this dump is even considered without an EA.
My husband and I both work in healthcare in Chatham-Kent and chose to live in Dresden to raise our son. I cannot imagine how this will impact his future, let alone all the other kids in this town. We need to ensure that this assessment is done fully.
I call on the Ministry to honor commitments made to the community in 2024 and order a full Environmental Assessment to be completed.
