I am submitting a comment to register my outrage that this bill is being pushed forward to benefit wealthy developers and their projects over public well-being and environmental protection. There is no reason for the environmental study process to be bypassed other than to benefit the premier’s wealthy developer friends and donors and this bill does so by threatening and destroying one of Ontario’s main community and economic assets - its nature.
I am also deeply concerned with the provisions around the creation of special economic zones which allow development to bypass environmental and municipal laws. Ontario needs to focus on its core mandate of delivering vital provincial services like healthcare rather than spending time and energy on ravaging public resources in service of private development and bulldozing through municipal law where it has no business.
