The proposed changes to the endangered species act are contradictory to the purpose of the act itself. Framing the goal of making it easier for developers and economic growth, implying the protective measures that are currently in place are causing harm to developers - it is laughable. The current act is integral to the protection of endangered species, biodiversity and conservation of precious habitats, that once destroyed CAN NEVER BE RECOVERED. It is absolutely sickening to think the well-being of animals, their homes, ecosystems, and sacred land will be stripped away for the sake of easier expansion. The passing of this bill would cause irreparable damage, open the floodgates to progressively lessening the protection of endangered species, giving developers more rights and an easier path to destruction. Ontario needs REAL protection. We need to preserve the already fragile ecosystems that have been detrimentally effected by pollution and expansion over the last several decades. This bill is taking a step in the wrong direction, painting a picture of greed framed as concern for economic growth. I am truly ashamed at this proposal and will continue fighting for the protection of our animals and their habitats.
