I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 5. This legislation poses a serious threat to Ontario’s natural heritage and environmental integrity. By removing key protections for wetlands, woodlands, and farmland, Bill 5 prioritizes short-term development over long-term ecological sustainability and climate resilience.
Wetlands are critical for flood prevention, water filtration, and biodiversity. Weakening protections for these areas will increase the risk of flooding and reduce water quality for communities across the province. Similarly, allowing development to override conservation efforts sets a dangerous precedent that undermines public trust and Ontario’s commitment to climate action.
Instead of dismantling environmental safeguards, I urge the government to invest in sustainable development strategies that balance growth with the urgent need to protect natural ecosystems for future generations.
I respectfully ask that Bill 5 be withdrawn.
