As Canadians, we cannot compromise environmental and ecological protection for economic and social growth. We need to balance the well-being of our population with the species that call this land home. I believe changes to the Endangered Species Act will allow more business to conduct themselves without taking accountability for their ecological footprint and their impacts on the environment, including our endangered species. If the purpose of this Act is to speed up the regulation and permitting process for economic growth, the Ontario government must figure out a way to do this without compromising our already-threatened species diversity. This cannot be approached as a zero-sum game, where either we have economic / social prosperity OR conserve our environment.
