I am horrified that this government is removing protections for endangered species and their habitats with this proposed legislation!
With climate change already putting unprecedented pressure on our environment, we must do more - not less - to protect clean air and water, green spaces and the species we share our province with. Bill 5 replaces the Endangered Species Act with toothless legislation that relies on voluntary and discretionary measures by major extractive industries and developers. With this legislation, Ontario will accelerate the extirpation and extinction of key species at risk.
Bill 5 is a direct attack on healthy communities, good planning, clean water and air, species at risk and the rights of Indigenous people, and must be repealed.
