I am concerned about the introduction of Bill 66. It is improving Ontario's competitiveness at the expense of public health and welfare. Why would we want to allow industrial contamination of our water supplies? We already have a legacy of contaminated sites that have cost tens of millions of dollars with no end in sight. Do we want to have a repeat of the contamination of water that happened in Walkerton? Do we allow business to freely pollute our air with no consequences whatsoever and with no thought for the health of our citizens. I would not want to live in a contaminated community.
And I think it is irresponsible not to set some ground rules to protect our air and water quality and
measures to protect environmentally sensitive lands and green spaces.
Economic and business development, and job creation should not come at the expense of the health and welfare of our communities.
