Repealing the Endangered Species Act (2007), is shortsighted extremely concerning. We are currently in a biodiversity crisis. We need to be strengthening safeguards for vulnerable species rather than removing them. This change will significantly weaken the already limited protections afforded to vulnerable species and biodiversity in Ontario. Narrowing the definition of "habitat" to only dens and nests the immediate area surrounding them in the proposed Species Conservation Act is unacceptable. This does not protect critical pieces of habitat for species at risk such as places to feed and migrate. I demand you immediately redact this change and instead, strengthen protections for species at risk and biodiversity in Ontario.
