I am opposed to this proposal. Projects need to go through the appropriate processes to ensure that they will not cause harm and are in fact in the public interest. Governments are always trying to pass increasingly autocratic legislation such as this one at the behest of industry under the guise of "emergency". The current situation south of the border is nowhere near enough of a valid justification for the proposed changes. Furthermore this clearly seems like it will be used to favor particular proponents, as there are no clearly proposed criteria for "trusted proponent" and it will be up to the minister to designate. This smells of obvious favoritism for certain well connected proponents.
