A hunting season on this magnificent and valued water bird is a terrible idea. It is not based on scientific reasoning, but on anecdotal and outdated notions. Please do not proceed with this. We need these birds as part of a balanced system in our Great Lakes region. There is no way to monitor how many birds are taken, and it could result in the eradication of this integral species. We do not need to lower the numbers. They are stable, and these birds are a natural part of our ecosystem.
