Bill 5 represents the manipulation of the current state of the world, taking people’s fear and using it to remove the restrictions on development in protected areas under the guise of bettering and protecting Ontario. All this Bill will do is send our province hurtling towards environmental disaster. Allowing development with no regulation - with studies determined at the discretion of a body that clearly has no understanding of or care for biodiversity and the natural environment - will not serve for the advancement and bettering of the province. The removal of regulation will allow for the further manipulation of our checks and balances to serve the agendas of wealthy corporations and individuals who, despite all promises and lies, could care less about the needs of the average Ontarians. They will destroy the natural environment to serve their bottom line and will not self regulate, as seen with the recent Auditor general report on the aggregate industry. Free rein in development on sensitive lands will lead to further fragmentation and degradation of our ecosystem and the fragile web of life. In changing long established and hard fought definitions and standards in the Species at Risk Act 2007 we will see the loss of migration routes, feeding and breeding grounds, and destruction of their critical habitat. While the changes proposed in this bill directly target species at risk, they will have a cascading impact on the other species due to the well studied interconnected nature of ecosystems. None of the actions being taken by the Ontario government will benefit its people, simply the sacrifice of the environmental biodiversity for industry which result in the loss of our way of live as we know now for us and future generations. If this comes to pass we will be know as those who destroyed this beautiful place, with nothing left to discover other than a wasteland of concrete.
