I am concerned that the proposal to exempt the Eagle's Nest Mine from a current environmental assessment will have unintended consequences that will outweigh any benefit that might be gained from this project.

It is imperative that we respect the rights of First Nations on whose territory the proposed mine is to be situated. It is also necessary that the risk of environmental harms be fully appreciated before proceeding with the project in order to mitigate them should the project proceed. Understanding the potential effects of any project is prudent and necessary to avoid downstream and future costs as well as to avoid negating any purported benefits be they social, environmental or financial.

Proper consultation and an environmental assessment is necessary for this project and should not be excluded arbitrarily.
