I do not support the creation of the Special Economic Zones Act, 2025. I agree that there is a great need for Ontario to act strategically in the face of the impact from trade disruptions. And protecting our industries and ensuring the province's long-term prosperity and the security of our economy are all necessary and imperative actions. However, I do not feel the speed of building is the key element that has been or will prevent addressing the above. While they are not often easily determined, there are a multitude of reasons why building/ infrastructure development may take time and I do not think the creation of "Special Economic Zones" will address the impediments to efficient development or secure our economy or protect us from the impact of trade disruptions.

These proposed zones are deeply problematic as they will potentially allow some projects to be conducted above the law - these projects will be exempt from legislative responsibilities - which as an Ontario taxpayer and individual who is bound to follow the law, is unconscionable. Therefore, I do not support the passing of this proposed law.
