I strongly oppose the removal of environmental assessment requirements for the York1 waste disposal site project through the proposed Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025.
I have resided in Dresden for over 4 decades and I am raising a family here. My child attends the school in Dresden. It will not be safe with 700 trucks coming into town with who knows what (asbestos, residential garbage, construction material etc), headed to the dump and 700 trucks leaving. We have 1 traffic light in town.
Our infrastructure will not be able to handle all this excess weight and wear and tear on the roads, bridges and culverts.
I can't imagine the health & environmental issues having a mega dump literally dumped on top of our small beautiful town that is rich in black history being the home of Josiah Henson & the Underground Railroad. We are surrounded by prime agricultural land and businesses that will not survive with a dump being less then one kilometre from our town.
This property has never been through an Environmental Assessment before. Now isn't the time to revoke what we were promised would happen.
The property is very close to Molly's Creek which runs into the Sydenham River which runs into other surrounding bodies of water. There are many endangered species that will be affected, not to mention drinking water and fish that we eat.
Do the right thing and ensure that a full Comprehensive Environmental Assessment is completed on this property. Our lives depend on it.
