The Environmental Assessment…

The Environmental Assessment requirements for the proposed York1 Waste Disposal Site just outside Dresden should not be removed.

This facility has the potential to significantly impact the social, environmental and economic prospects of the Town of Dresden and the surrounding region in Chatham-Kent. Only through a proper EA process can these impacts be identified and a proper decision made as to whether or not this project should proceed. Removing the requirement for an EA for this project removes due process for the individuals who will be most impacted by the project including downstream communities and First Nations and communities though which the waste material will be hauled.

It is not justified to exempt this project from an Environmental Assessment. This will not 'unleash the economy' of the Town of Dresden, nor of Ontario, and has the potential for significant negative impacts which must first be identified. The project does not have the support of local residents and there are questions around the rationale for reversing the decision to require an EA assessment, which require clarification.
