Conclusion: Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025 (Bill 5) should be withdrawn, including Schedules 2 and 10, 3, 5, 7 and 9.
Bill 5 is a failure – fast-tracking decision-making related to development, weakening already degraded legal protections for wildlife, their habitats, and the environment, and undermining climate stability at a global scale. A sweeping Bill with a narrow economic focus, Bill 5 trades the quality of our environment, the stability, diversity and resilience of ecosystems, and the persistence of species and their habitat, for poor quality living conditions for all life in Ontario and beyond. Healthy ecosystems drive healthy, sustainable communities and livelihoods, not the dismantling of policies and legislations that are put in place to protect living systems.
