Section 35(1.1) proposed to the Building Code Act, 1992, prevents municipalities from enforcing and passing bylaws related to construction or demolition. This could impact local green-building standards which are integral to long term viability for development projects. Please consider the health of our communities and allow municipal bylaws to uphold environmental standards. Bill 17 appears to be an attempt to limit the amount of information municipalities can require from developers during the planning process. This could potentially reduce inclusion of environmental factors in development applications. We should not exclude studies related to lighting, sun/shadow, wind and urban design from planning if the city deems them necessary. Those living and working in their own communities ought to make their own decisions on efficiency/renewable energy requirements. The province needs to work to enable green infrastructure in our cities instead of trampling it.
