Friends - Bill 17 is erasing years of work by city leaders to ensure energy efficiency is taken into account when building new homes. In Ontario, it has been a decade since city councils started approving green construction standards that require builders to attend to this aspect of home-building, using best evidence, economically viable approaches, and a democratic process. The standards and process were developed with thorough consultation from industry and the approach is critical to keeping utility costs affordable for consumers and to reducing needless energy waste that is a major contributor to climate change. In fact, green construction standards are one of THE most impactful climate actions available in cities in Ontario. Please click the link below and consider adding your voice to many others asking that implementation of Bill 17 maintains adherence to green construction standards.
