I'm in favor of any legislation that contributes to controlling cormorants however I am concerned that OMNR&F are passing the buck so that anglers and hunters bear the brunt of people who want nothing of a cull. I believe that OMNR&F should take on the cull as well by oiling eggs especially on Burlington Harbour, Leslie St. Spit and other areas where hunting will not be allowed. In other words take on some of the responsibilities themselves instead of passing the buck. There are other Islands on Lake Ontario for instance that are Provincially owned,Proctor Is, Sweatman Island Timber Island Main Duck Island. These are Cormorant nesting grounds. How will OMNR&F control populations there?
If this legislation fails OMNR&F will say to anglers and hunters that "oh well we tried" but are they really trying? or just passing the buck.
I,m also not convinced that hunters will be able to control the population of these birds, therefore; I would like to see a combined effort that includes our Ministry who we support with angler and hunter dollars as well as tax payer dollars.
