Re: Regulatory amendments to support financing for Ontario Power Generation's major nuclear projects
I am not in favour of having my rates, as a rate payer, go towards advancing this Nuclear Energy investment/ future stranded asset. I know that Ontario has everything we need to develop a strong renewable energy system and grid. While Nuclear is a relatively low-carbon option, it is hugely expensive and a very slow process to build out. From my understanding, as well, the small nuclear reactors are not actually in full working mode anywhere else in Canada (the world?), so why put so much money and dangerous material into our electricity network? It may seem like a great idea to you now, but ask our descendents 7 generations going forward. The climate will continue to destabilize while we initiate slow, expensive and hazardous energy in place. And also, from my layperson's perspective, I understand that these smr's are being built by an American company. What's this about leaving 'no stone unturned' when it comes to fighting back against the Trump tariff's? Why are we locking in billions of our tax-payer money into an American company? Let's move away from American overdependence and towards an Ontario that is self-sufficient and renewable.
Thank you. I would appreciate a response.
