Eliminating environment assessments for new developments seems like a bad idea. I enjoy access to natural light, not being pummelled by wind, having comfortable places to walk and sit, and not having lights blasting in my face. Current studies ensure new developments can go ahead while maintaining these. The solution to faster building is not to eliminate these studies, but to standardize them so developers know what to expect and prepare for it. Without shadow, wind, urban design, and lighting studies, we’ll be building massive Soviet apartment blocks, which I do not think our province wants.
