I work in addictions in Hamilton, and also with those that are unhoused. It's clear that Hamilton has a housing crisis. With inflation and rising costs of living, more people are struggling than ever before. People need affordable housing, not just for those that access shelters, but as prevention. This particular housing development is needed to house individuals in our community. We are already at the tipping point and there are no options within Hamilton, and the solutions they have already proposed (Barton and Tiffany outdoor shelter) cost more than the city intended. Utilizing already existing infrastructure costs less than creating new water and wiring systems. Why not utilize this building that has been sitting vacant for far too long?
