I support the transfer of Nancy Island Historic Site to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Gaming. It has been great working with Ontario Parks, but recently the Ministry of Environment has failed to provide adequate funding to maintain and staff Nancy Island. The additional $25m. funding from the government will greatly enhance the site.
I have reservations about the transfer of beach areas to the Town of Wasaga Beach. None of property should ever be sold privately for any purpose, and the habitat, such as for the piping plovers, must be protected.
Yes, the town could enhance parking, develop the area 2 theatre, having attractions such as a ferris wheel to bring in additional tourists, etc.
There needs to be a clear structure of checks and balances so that more than the town has say in how these lands are transitioned. Thus should include the province and citizens.
