CityHousing Hamilton (CHH), Mayor Andrea Horwath and other partners, are seeking a Ministerial Zoning Order (MZO) to get the much needed Jamesville development started in Hamilton.
As a partner organization, we understand that CHH has tried since the appeal was first filed to come to an agreement with CN Rail without resolution. Our city was at a crisis level in 2022 when CN filed their appeal. The situation has not improved since, with the City of Hamilton making a declaration of Emergency in the area of homelessness in 2023.
Affordable housing developments bring dignity and stability to individuals and families, plays a key role in ending homelessness and hospitalizations, and provide hundreds. As a community housing provider, we support CHH’s efforts of advancing this housing development.
Resolving this issue by issuing an MZO and ending CN Rail’s appeal, will assist our city towards addressing the critical housing needs and meeting the provincial challenge of 47,000 new units by 2031. Jamesville alone represents a potential 642 homes for Hamiltonians.
We support CHH in their efforts to move this project forward.
