This land is not the Ford government’s to sell away. This land is precious and there is no development that could offset the damage that will come to the living beings that depend on what’s left of the ecosystem in that area. Conservation is an act of reverence and should be upheld with the sacredness that the government is responsible to steward. The fact that more colonized land is being sold off for the benefit of relatively few with little to no “consultation” with Indigenous leaders is shameful. Also everyone knows that when a “consultation” is conducted it doesn’t mean that the perspectives and needs of Indigenous Peoples is actually honoured or respected and woven into the next steps of a development plan. The slow genocide of our natural habitats will be the slow death of us all.
