The City of Hamilton has mismanaged this for a long time. They are being stubborn with CN. They seem to not care where they put people, so long as they get more and more density and get their way. Please don't reward their incompetence and allow them to proceed without the proper oversight and regulations - they have not earned this level of independence.

The fiasco on the purchase of Tiffany Homes should be looked at as an example of what can happen when our mayor was allowed to use exceptional powers to push through a housing project. On that one if you look at what was promised and the timeline promised, and that the timeline was the rationale for avoiding the usual bidding process, and compare to the issues that arose in proper compliance and permiting, the actual time it took to complete (and if they could have achieved that if they followed the proper process), how the actual costs compared to budget, and overall, what ended up being achieved (how many helped, etc.) considering the taxpayer money that was spent there. While this may be a different situation, it can be looked at as an example of what can go wrong when the City of Hamilton is allowed to work outside usual channels. We have rules for a reason, and if there's an ability to be excepted from those, shouldn't those exceptions be reserved for those who demonstrate they can act responsibly?
