The following are my comments and concerns on the designation changes currently upon consideration in Wasaga Beach.
Nancy Island is a site of profound historical significance and a pivotal narrative in the War of 1812 in the Great Lakes. By transitioning its focus to "tourism, gaming, and sports", it would align with revered historic sites like Discovery Harbour and SMATH, potentially securing vital funding to enhance visibility, care for essential artifacts, and upgrade aging infrastructure.

The proposed sale of beach areas is a grave cause for concern, as the provincial park is instrumental in conservation efforts that prevent the proliferation of invasive species in these areas. The beach areas are also a habitat for the endangered Piping Plover, and the provincial park possesses specialized expertise to protect and assist this species, which nests on the beach. Moreover, the provincial park provides essential educational programs about the beach. It is essential to clarify the terms of the beach sale, including any stipulations on development, environmental safeguards, and potential repercussions. Building on the beach appears to be a short-sighted initiative that would compromise the inclusivity of the beach as a popular destination for Ontarians and international visitors alike. As the largest freshwater beach in the world, it is our responsibility to protect the beach for future generations, rather than developing it.
