I support the redevelopment of the Jamesville housing complex, but I have some concerns:
The proposed 20 storey building goes against what the community agreed on with the Setting Sail master plan, that limits the height of buildings in the area to six stories. This decision was reached through a process of public consultation.
This site was home to 91 geared to income housing units. The new plan for the site prioritizes market rate rentals first, thus further delaying much needed social housing.
CN has expressed concerns about the site being located within close proximity of it's shunting yard but has not shown any mitigation plans and how a 20 storey building will impact their activities in the shunting yard.
A 20 storey building is going to impact the liveability of the neighbourhood in a negative way. There will be more vehicular traffic on the streets, pressure on the already delicate infrastructure and will not fit in with the character of the neighbourhood.
