I am commenting to express my strong opposition to the sale of approximately 645 acres of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park to private developers. This land represents one-seventh of the park's area and includes critical dune ecosystems, sensitive shoreline habitats, and is home to the Piping Plover, a species listed as endangered on the SARA list and the provincial Endangered Species Act. The decision to sell public parkland threatens to undermine both environmental integrity and public trust.

Wasaga Beach is not only a cherished recreational space but also a vital ecological zone. The park's shoreline and dune systems serve as natural buffers against erosion, flooding, and biodiversity loss. Privatizing this land for development would permanently fragment this sensitive habitat and increase pressure on local ecosystems at a time when Ontario should be strengthening its environmental protections.

Furthermore, this proposal contradicts the Ontario government's commitments to climate resilience, biodiversity protection, and public access to nature. The land in consideration is currently protected under the PPCRA, and its removal from public stewardship would represent an irreversible loss.

As someone who visited the park on Sunday, July 20th, I enjoyed it firsthand, along with hundreds of other Ontarians and tourists. I urge the Ministry to reject any proposal that involves the sale, rezoning, or removal of land from Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. I also request that the Ministry uphold its mandate to protect Ontario’s natural heritage and prioritize ecological health and public interest over short-term economic gain.
