Provincial Park Status seems to provide the best protection for this environmentally fragile area with regard to a threatened species still in recovery, the Piping Plover. By offering maximum protection to these areas it ensures ecotourism and my family for one look to a tourism experience that is protecting rather than exploiting our biodiversity, We are the stewards of these areas for future generation.
Experiencing yurts and night banding of Sow Whet owls as part of bird conservation in the Port Dover area was an eye opener as how best to honour this unique, area without disrupting it.Conservation has economic value.
Canada could be a leader in Ecotourism worldwide without succumbing to an exploitive "development" of areas not taking into account the unique riches they already provide. Long term damage can easily be avoided to species such as the Plover. Each species is a necessary and valuable part of our Canadian landscape. We need fresh vision here, not more motel and restaurant franchises. "Development" in places like Toronto has destroyed the beautiful lakefront from the view of any but the few who can afford the high rise condos and apartments in what reflects American values that serve only a priviledged few.
A Proud Canadian
